Sundance for Peasants

People of Sundance

People in black donning furry boots and funny hats have left their perfectly warm-weathered town to brave the frigid temps of the Wasatch with the hopes of catching that one-guy from that movie bust his ass on the ice. If you’re a local, it’s tempting to hide from the crowds in the comfort of your living room, however, I’d encourage you to brave the madness at least once. After all, watching Kim Kardashian waddle down Main Street is quite entertaining. Here are my top 5 pics for Sundance 2014 that don’t require Hollywood cred to enjoy.

1. People Watching on Main Street

As evidenced above, the people watching is quite spectacular. Everyone from Hollywood wannabes to legit celebrities are trying to be seen on Main Street throughout the festival. Best of all, it’s free and lasts as long or as little as you’d like.

2. Moth Story Slam at the Airbnb Haus

New to the festival this year, is the Airbnb Haus. In addition to the free 4 Barrel Coffee, I’m especially excited about The Moth Story Slam event on Sunday night. Check the Airbnb Haus website for a full list of events and registration

3. Fairends Pop-Up Store

Just like the people, many of the shop, bars, and restaurants take on another persona during Sundance. Fairends, a Montana based apparel and gear company will be taking over the Hathenbruck space on the corner of Heber and Swede Alley. Definitely should be worth checking out.

4. Space at 625 Main Street

Space will feature work from various artists and photographers including one of my local favorites, Jim Mangan. The gallery will be located on lower Main and the work will be on display from January 16 to February 15.

5. Best of Fest

For every potential winner in Sundance, there’s a lot of shit sandwiches. Best of Fest is a great way of mitigating your risk while still having a Sundance film experience. For more information on Best of Fest and how to get tickets, visit the Sundance website.
