Weekly Roundup

Most of my week was spent recovering from the ass-kickin handed to me courtesy of the Wasatch Enduro. It was a great event and I can’t wait til next year, however I am looking forward to getting back on my bike without regard for the clock. Below is a great video that embodies the essence of trail riding; I love the sound rubber on dirt makes as it rips through the forest. Featuring rider Aidan Forrest via Spoke Magazine.

I posted a link to James Victore’s 99% Conference talk earlier in the week but it’s worth reposting. Any graphic designer, or really any kind of professional, worth the weight of their iPhone should take something away from this video. While graphic designer may not be as noble of an occupation as say brain surgeon, design, if done right, has the power to have a positive impact on the world around us.

Technically, Christmas in July was yesterday, but the Alex Deckard Internet Shop is open and ready for business. Go buy something special for yourself or someone you love… it’s the American thing to do.

They don’t make ’em like this anymore – My World is Empty by The Supremes. Something about this song really has a hold on me. The track is so dark and brooding yet positively upbeat.

Meanwhile on the Interwebs…

Starting this week, I’ll be posting a weekly roundup of gems I’ve found courtesy of the interwebs. Keep reading below to see what’s in store for this week.

Above is a lovely little video about logos from PBS Offbook. Perhaps the most rewarding and challenging experiences for a graphic designer is creating a well-executed logo or identity piece. View my logo and identity design work.

Today would have been Hunter S. Thompson’s 75th birthday. Rolling Stone has republished HST’s Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72 story that originally appeared in the July edition of Rolling Stone in 1973.

Kitty Wells, the “Queeen of Country Music,” died this week in Nashville at the age of 92. Her voice was made for AM radio gold.

Here’s a great ad from team Obama for America criticizing Romney’s time as CEO of Bain Capital. Release your tax returns Mittens, that is unless, you have something to hide

And finally, on a lighter note, here’s a fine little edit from The North Face featuring rider Mike Hopkins. Via Spoke Magazine.

Happy 100 Woody Guthrie.

Yes, as through this world I’ve wandered
I’ve seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen.

From Pretty Boy Floyd by Woody Guthrie. Written in 1939 and as relevant as ever.

Wasatch Enduro Park City

Lush.

Getting some practice laps on Insurgent Trail last Saturday in preparation for next week’s Bell Wasatch Enduro at Canyons Resort. I’m stoked to compete in Utah’s first ever enduro format mountain bike race here in Park City. Although these guys are going to prove to be some stiff competition.

For more on enduro format racing check out the Oregon Enduro Series or Canyons Resort’s blog post on the upcoming Bell Wasatch Enduro where your’s truly is quoted.
