The Long Way Home.

Weber Canyon Road

Taking the Long Way Home – Weber Canyon Road, Utah

How I went 28 years in my life without a motorcycle is a mystery. Feel’s like being sixteen all over again.

Happy Spring

Doo wop, the most sensual music ever made, the sound of raw sex, of silk stockings rustling on backseat upholstery, the sound of the snaps of bras popping across the USA, of wonderful lies being whispered into Tabu–perfumed ears, the sound of smeared lipstick, untucked shirts, running mascara, tears on your pillow, secrets whispered in the still of the night, the high school bleachers, & the dark at the YMCA canteen. The soundtrack for your incredibly, wonderful limp–your–ass, blue–balled walk back home after the dance. Oh! And it hurt so good.

— Bruce Springsteen, 2012 SXSW Keynote Speech

I love this so much. Not just this particular quote, but Bruce’s entire 2012 SXSW Keynote Speech. Very inspirational and entertaining. If you haven’t seen it already, watch it now, if you have, watch it again. I wonder how many bra’s were popped to this song?

Frank Chimero’s Advice to Students

Develop a point of view. Think about what experiences you have that many others do not. Then, think of what experiences you have that almost everyone else has. Then, mix those two things and try to make someone cry or laugh or feel understood.

Taken from designer Frank Chimero. Via frankchimero.com.

Frank posted a link to something he wrote a few years back. I somehow missed it the first time around but it’s jam-packed with some great advice for students and non-students alike. The above bit caught my attention. Many struggle with trying to develop an original style or point of view. However more times than not, your point of view is born out of identifying and then pursuing your interests and passions by any means necessary.

Springin’ in Utah

Mountain Biking Little Grand Canyon, Utah

Above: My partners in crime at the Wedge Overlook, Little Grand Canyon, Utah – taken 2011

Old Man Winter seems to be taking a break for the time being. While we sure could use the water, it’s nice to have a hint of spring in the air. I foresee some desert-trippin’ in my near future.

In the meantime, check out this edit titled Collectors, from Chromag on Vimeo for your mountain biking fix. Note: Typically Alt-J makes my skin crawl, however the song tends to work.

I’ve revived my photo blog, Let’s Go Native on Tumblr. Check it out and if you’re a Tumblr user, give me a follow.

Warmer Thoughts…

One must maintain a little bit of summer
even in the middle of winter.

– Henry David Thoreau

It’s been a rough few weeks weather-wise. Utah’s hit a dry spell that’s cast some of the worst air quality on record over the valley’s. Up high, the fluctuating temperatures have wreaked havoc on the snowpack. As much as I love winter as a counter-balance to summer, I’ve had enough of this nonsense. So here’s a few links to put you in a warmer state of mind and temporarily escape these winter-time blues.

If this vid doesn’t put you in the mood to go ride bikes, check your pulse – Josh Bryceland introducing the Santa Cruz Blur TR.

Some great images rounded up from last July by Secret Forts – The Board : Full On Summer.

Go skinny dipping with Stonemen. Now that is how you sell underwear.

And lastly, there’s nothing like a little Neil Young to put you in the mood for some quality porch time.
